Behavioral factors
User interaction signals: time on site, depth, CTR, dwell time — used by Yandex and Google.
Full definition
Behavioral factors are user interaction signals with the site and search results that search engines consider when ranking.
Main behavioral signals
1. CTR in SERP — do users click your snippet 2. Dwell Time — how long the user spent on the page 3. Return-to-SERP — did they go back to search (bad) or stayed on the site 4. View depth — how many pages they viewed 5. Bounce Rate — left immediately or interacted 6. Repeat visits — does the user come back 7. Social signals — shares, mentions on social networks
How search engines use them
- •Yandex officially uses behavioral signals, highest in the industry. Behavior is one of top-3 ranking factors.
- •Google officially denies but indirect research (especially after Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines) shows behavior influences rankings.
- •AI search engines (Perplexity, ChatGPT Search) depend less on behavior, more on fact-checking.
Behavior manipulation
Particularly popular in the Russian segment for Yandex. Manipulation services (Userator, BoostSEO) simulate visits. Doesn't work in 2026 — Yandex effectively detects manipulation and demotes domains. Lifetime filter risk.
Natural ways to improve
1. Site speed — increases dwell time 2. Clear first screen — reduces return-to-SERP 3. Internal linking — depth growth 4. Quality content — repeat visit growth 5. Video and interactivity — time on page growth 6. Relevant Title/Description — CTR growth
