Core Web Vitals
Google's page experience metrics: LCP, INP, CLS — measuring speed and visual stability.
Full definition
Core Web Vitals (CWV) are Google's three metrics measuring real user experience: loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability. Since 2021, CWV have been an official ranking factor.
- •The three metrics:
- •LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) — time until the largest element is rendered. Target: < 2.5 s.
- •INP (Interaction to Next Paint) — response time to user actions. Target: < 200 ms. (Replaced FID in March 2024.)
- •CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) — cumulative shift of page elements during loading. Target: < 0.1.
Measurement: Google Search Console (Core Web Vitals report), PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, CrUX.
Typical problems: heavy images without lazy loading (LCP), heavy JS tasks (INP), images without explicit dimensions and ad slots (CLS).
